I am never as excited to receive something I can’t use yet as I am when the Lilly Pulitzer agendas are released. I spent the majority of my Wednesday sitting at my dining room table pretending to work when I was really staring out the window willing the FedEx truck to show up. Finally, at 3:15pm, my lovely FedEx driver delivered my Lilly Pulitzer 2015-2016 jumbo agenda in Red Right Return.

This year I decided to go with the jumbo agenda size. Last year I chose the small size thinking I would carry it around with me in my purse. This didn’t end up happening so I figured this year I would go big or go home. They are also available in large, covered spine large, and medium. The jumbo really isn’t as huge as you would think judging by the name. At 8 3/4″ by 11 1/4″ it’s the perfect desktop size and probably very useful for students and teachers. I am neither one of those, but that’s not going to stop me from enjoying this beauty. To give you an idea of how this compares to my small agenda from last year, here are some handy visuals. The measurements for the small agenda are 4 1/2″ by 6 1/2″ so the jumbo is almost double the size.

One of the main reasons for choosing the jumbo agenda over the large was, of course, the print. Lilly is very sneaky and doesn’t offer all sizes in all prints. The newer, more popular prints are often only available in one size and typically it’s in the larger agenda sizes (I’m looking at you, Lobstah Roll). I was dying to have the Red Right Return pattern so my agenda was basically chosen for me. I just can’t get enough of those sailboats.

According to Lilly, “Red Right Return” is the way to get back to shore. The red buoys on your right will always lead you safely home. Apparently this is actually legit sailing information so don’t forget next time you are boating. Who knew Lilly was so educational?

Inside you are greeted with some gorgeous graphics. The right side is a pocket page. I like that this year the pocket pages aren’t just plain white pages. The insides of all of the agenda sizes will be the same, just in a smaller dimension than the jumbo that I’m showing here.

The left side of this spread is also a pocket page and on the right are the agenda stickers. While the agenda stickers are definitely adorable, I don’t find them as useful as past stickers for actually organizing within the agenda. The stickers are selections from the Lilly 5×5 gallery. They’ll cover most of the bigger holidays, but there are no stickers for birthdays etc. as there were in the past. Fortunately, Etsy has approximately 50 billion planner stickers now so we should all be ok.

Moving right along, we have the back of the sticker page and another beautiful graphic page.

This Palm Beach page is definitely my favorite graphic spread. I can tell you 100% that I will be ripping these out at the end of the year and framing these or possibly trying to paint my own copy. Another plus for the jumbo size is how useful all of the pictures can be even after you’re done using the agenda. So many opportunities for framing or using in craft projects.

There are four of the Next Adventure travel planning pages. Even if you aren’t travelling this year or don’t want to use these pages to plan your trip, these would be great pages to use for inspiration for dream trips or even just reminders of activities to do in your own hometown. I think it’s important to remember not to feel constricted by the pre-printed text in agendas. You can always cover them up with washi tape, stickers, or pasted in pictures of your own.

There are two pages to record numbers and addresses. Sometimes I feel like it’s silly to still include these types of pages in agendas since most of us house our contact information in a phone or other electronic device. That being said, I’m always terrified that something is going to happen to my electronic contact information and I would be in big trouble because no one has phone numbers memorized anymore. I can barely remember my own. This will be a great place to record my most important contact names and numbers in case of electronic disaster.

Now we move into the actual monthly agenda. I’m going to use August to show examples of the complete monthly and weekly layout. I’ll only be showing the covers for the rest of the months.

The notes section is at the back of the agenda this year and there are nine full (front and back) pages and two single pages. I really like that there are so many!

As you can see, this agenda is pretty much amazing. The jumbo gives you so much room to write and, if you aren’t using it as a student, would be a great place to keep track of workouts, nutrition, life goals, daily to-do lists, or even short journal blurbs. I would love to hear how everyone uses their agenda. We all live such different lives and I find it so interesting to pick up tips and tricks from other Lilly lovers.

Agendas are available on the Lilly Pulitzer website, in stores, and on Amazon.

So, what do you think? Are you getting a Lilly agenda this year or going with another brand? What do you use yours for? Do you decorate your agendas?

  1. Thanks for the overview! I’ve been debating between the jumbo Red Right Around and the covered Lobstah Roll. I’m a journalist and take a lot of notes in my planner so I like the size of the jumbo agenda. I’m also going back to school in the fall, most likely full time so again, the size of the jumbo may be ideal but I’m afraid of the coils getting mashed up in a bookbag. How heavy would you say your jumbo agenda is? I know they’re about an inch thick but I’m afraid of them being super heavy.

    1. Thanks so much for stopping by! I will tell you that I was surprised at how manageable the size and weight of the jumbo agenda was when I received it. I had already decided that I was going to be using this as a desk-top planner and wouldn’t be travelling much with it so even though I knew it would be huge, it didn’t matter to me; however, when I received it I realized that if I was still in school I would totally throw this in my tote or backpack and be fine. I would guesstimate that it’s only going to add a single pound to your load.

I absolutely LOVE how much writing space there is and this was a big key for me as well. I’m planning on using the agenda for all kinds of things so it was important that there was enough space to fit it all in.

The coils are also pretty strong so I don’t think I would worry about them getting jammed up in a bookbag.

I just took a peek at your blog and am so excited to look through your posts!

    1. Thanks for commenting Bre! I need to pick up some new stickers for this agenda since the ones that came with the agenda this year aren’t very helpful in the organizational department. I’ll have to check out Wal-Mart and the Dollar Store.

  2. Okay, so a few things. First of all, I am insanely and obsessively passionate about my Kate Spade agenda and have been that, and loyal to it, for many many years. Not only was it so awesome to see someone else so passionate about an agenda book (rare these days, with all our tech), but I think your article actually swayed me to for the first time, to veer from tradition, and get the adorable Lily P Planner for ‘back to school’. So thanks for some great writing! 🙂 xo, Bee – style-island.com

    1. Hi Bee! Thank you so much for your very nice comments! Oh man, those Kate Spade planners are super adorable so I can’t blame you for being passionate about it! I’m so glad that you are considering the Lilly though. It’s definitely my favorite. I love my technology but for some reason planning on paper still feels “right” to me.

  3. I’m a planner junkie, so this post was a delight. I had never heard of this brand. Thanks for linking up at the Weekend Blog Hop at My Flagstaff Home!

    1. Hi Judith! I’m so glad my obsessive picture taking was helpful! When I was ordering my agenda last year I really wished I had a resource for an in-depth look before I bought it so I knew I had to do it this year for anyone who was looking for something similar.

  4. I’m having such a hard time deciding what planner to get this year, the struggle is really real lol. I have been using a large Lilly planner for the past two years and have really liked it, but I’m thinking maybe I should try something else this year. Although your review has definitely made me reconsider getting a Lilly planner again. Especially since now I know the jumbo is pretty manageable.

    1. I’m so glad to hear that the jumbo has worked well for you in the past, Jenni, since this is my first year using that size! I definitely have contemplated looking at other planners, especially Erin Condren, since there is so much hype about them right now. But after awhile I realized I was more excited about all of the stickers and accessories and decorating people were doing with their Erin Condren planners and the actual organizing portion was sort of going by the wayside. So, I decided to stick with the Lilly planner and just have fun watching people decorate their Erin Condren planners on Youtube 🙂

I’d love to hear what planner you end up going with and how you use it!

  5. I just got my first Lilly Agenda in the Large Scuba to Cuba print. I was saddened to know I wouldn’t be able to get Red Right Return (My favorite color is blue). The pictures don’t even do the agenda’s justice, they are sooo cute in person!! And did you know that in yhr Large Agenda the notes pages are right before the monthly/weekly pages and we only get 8 full and 2 halg pages. I can’t wait to start using my agenda in August for my Sophomore year!!!

    1. I know what you mean, Andrea! I’ve seen people uncoil this planner, and others like the Erin Condren, and put it in a binder so they can do the same. I’m not sure I’m up for all that work haha.

  6. Thanks for sharing joining the Sundays Down Under link up. I’ve pinned your post and shared on social media. I wish we could get those gorgeous Lilly Pullitzer products here in Australia!

  7. Hi,
I absolutely loved your review and it actually helped me decide to go with the jumbo one. I was wondering if you could tell me what size are the month at a glance boxes?
    Thank you 🙂

    1. Hi Ela-On the monthly view, the boxes are just over 1.5 inches in width and just shy of 2 inches in length. I hope that helps and I hope you love your agenda!

      1. Thank you so much! It definitely helps! I am so excited about it and I am already making plans about how to structure it and decorate it 🙂

  8. Just a quick question… I recently got a version of this agenda, and noticed that there are two months at a glance for each month? Once in the front, and then right before each month’s weekly spread as the year goes on. Any idea why? Am I supposed to write everything in it twice, because I wouldn’t want to miss something one one calendar that’s not on the other… But I was hoping there was a more clever/sensible way to use it?

    1. Hi Lorn! I took a look at my jumbo agenda and found that my jumbo does not have two month at a glance sections, just one in front of each individual month. Interestingly enough, I looked at the mini/small version I had last year and it did indeed have two month at a glance portions just like yours does! Can I ask what size agenda you have? I’m honestly not sure which is correct. It seems unnecessary to have two and I remember that I didn’t use both last year because it was just too many places to write things in. I have to tell you that if this were the case in my jumbo, I probably would remove the pages and find some other use for them like a mini calendar to put on the fridge or something.

      1. I ordered it from Nordstrom, and if says “one size” and “large.” It’s the Scuba to Cuba print. And I’ve seen YouTube reviews/unboxings where they had the doubled monthly at a glance, but no one has explained any use for them. I thought about taking out the pages, but then it would also take out my small 2017 calendar, and dates to celebrate, because of the front and back printed pages, and I’d actually use both of those. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. I noticed it while looking through it at the store, but I thought maybe there was a reason for them.

        1. Hi again Lorn! I asked some people on Instagram and they all stated that they have the double month at a glance calendars like you do so I think there is a good chance that my particular agenda might be a misprint. One person mentioned that they use the first section of month at a glance calendars for things like birthdays or yearly events or social engagements and then they use the second set (in front of the weekly view) for scheduling for work or school. I thought that sounded like a good way to divide the views up for different uses if you didn’t want to remove any pages.

I know Lilly customer service would replace my agenda if I wanted but like I said before, I don’t really see a use for me personally for double monthly views so I’m just going to enjoy my slightly lighter agenda 🙂

  9. I was wondering, I have read some reviews that say that the pages are shiny or glossy, making it hard to use pencil or liquid pen to write on them. Is that true?

  10. Hello,
I purchased a medium size Lilly 2015-2016 agenda last year and wonder if I should upgrade sizes? I’m a college student, who will be taking approximately 3-4 classes per semester. I also work several days a week and am currently taking 2 classes during the summer semester. I have a North Face borealis backpack and I usually keep my Lilly agenda in my Celine nano handbag when transporting. Do you think that a large Lilly agenda would fit in my handbag with room for a wallet, keys, and smartphone? What do you recommend to me based on my needs?

    1. Hi April! While I do think that the large agenda would be great for your school needs, I also feel like the large is going to be a tight fit in your Celine Nano.

The Celine runs about 8″H x 8″W x 4″D and the large agenda runs about 8.8 x 6.8 x 1 so while I think you could technically fit it in somehow, I think the agenda would probably hang out the top AND be super crammed along with the other items you want to fit in your purse. So, if you are set on having an agenda that can fit in your Celine you will probably need to stick with the medium. But, if you are OK with keeping your agenda in your backpack then I would definitely encourage you to upgrade to the large. I love the large because it gives me so much room to plan and organize but it’s not something I would carry around in a typical purse. I would definitely need a tote or backpack to feel comfortable.

I hope this is helpful but feel free to let me know if you have any other specific questions!

  11. Thank you so much for your help. I think I’m going to purchase the large agenda. Is it worth the extra money to purchase the large spiral covered agenda? Also, I’m a new Lilly clothing owner. I love the Michele top. How long does Lilly clothing last without fading in the wash? If I were to purchase more Michele tops in different prints in the future, do you think that they are worth the extra money? Also, have you ever shopping the Lilly pulitzer end of summer sale? How does it work & is it worth the hassle ov purchasing Lilly pulitzer at a discount or should I just pay full price for the the Michele top? Also, I’m 5’5 & 130 lbs. could I fit the kids scarves? They are a lot cheaper than purchasing the adult, so that’s why I’m asking. I really appreciate your help so far.

    1. I think Michele tops are worth it if you like the patterns since it’s an inexpensive way to own some Lilly. They wear well for me especially when I air dry them vs. throwing them in the dryer. I have shopped the end of summer sale and it can be fun but not everything is available at sale prices so it may not be worth waiting for the sale if there is an item that you are just absolutely in love with. Here is a great blog post breaking down the sale and some tips to shopping it: http://kellyinthecity.com/lilly-pulitzer-after-party-sale-january-2016/

As for the scarves, I would check out the reviews for the particular scarf you are looking at. There are some good comments from people who have bought the scarves for themselves and give an idea of where they will hit, if you can double it up, etc. I think their reviews will give you a better idea if the kids scarf will work for you or not.

  12. Hi! So, even though this post is old, it helped me with my decision to try a Lilly agenda! What are your thoughts on this year’s line? Which are you getting? And do you think preordering is necessary? Do they actually like sell out on release day? (My husband wants me to wait till Friday ((which is release day)) to order when he gets paid. ) Thank you in advance!

    1. Hi Heather! I think that generally people are fine ordering on release day. They do sell out but I’ve heard that people have more problems with selling out at the stores but not as much online. I would just get online early and order as soon as possible to have the greatest chance of getting the pattern you want.

I’m so glad this post helped you with the decision. While the patterns and designs will be different, from what I can tell the insides will be similar in terms of layout. I did also notice that they are offering a blank monthly agenda this year where you fill in your own dates and I believe the view is only the monthly view. I think that works well for people who just want a very general overview for their planner but I’m going to stick with the regular layout so I can have more flexibility in terms of writing space. I’m planning to do another overview as soon as I get my agenda so be on the lookout for it!

Can’t wait to hear how you like your agenda and be sure to let me know which pattern you get! I’m getting the large in Exotic Garden and am so excited!

      1. I am still undecided between large Exotic Garden and large Island Time! If the one with the starfish had some brighter colors I’d like it better. And the one that has the little fish on it (going coastal?) Is super cute but only comes in a really small size :-/ So now I’m conflicted as to which pretty leaves I want lol.

        1. I know what you mean Heather! The exotic garden and island time were my two favorites as well. I feel like this is a recurring issue with choosing between all the great patterns!

  13. I ended up ordering the large Island Time! Can’t wait to receive it. Thank you again for this post and helping me choose a planner that fits me 😊

  14. Thank you for your help! I’ve been having so much trouble deciding between a KS agenda, especially since they came out with this adorable hoot print, or one of the new Lilly agendas. I’ll most likely go with lilly thanks to your in depth review 🙂

    1. You’re so welcome Alyssa! I am working on my review post for the 2016-2017 agendas right this moment and will hopefully have it up tonight or tomorrow. I will tell you that in general they are laid out similarly to the 2015-2016 ones and just feature new prints throughout. There are a few nice new details on this year’s agendas like gold spiral binding, gold elastic band, and gold leaf detail on the prints which I absolutely LOOOOOVE. But the layout is basically the same. You’ll have to let me know which one you get!

      1. I’m going to go for the jumbo Island time. My favorite one was sadly a large and I needed a jumbo for school. Thank you for all of your help! I can’t wait to read your review for the new planners 🙂

  15. Hello,
I’m so excited for the 2016-2017 Lilly Pulitzer agendas! I think I’ll decide on the Tusks In Sun print—I really love the golden elephants and magenta background. I want to get a Jumbo agenda, but the agenda has 17-months the start in August and end in December of the next year(2017). I want to get a jumbo agenda every year, but they all come in 17 months! If I order a jumbo agenda next year, what do I do with the extra five months? I don’t want to waste five months of the planner though. I did some research and found out the LP sells 12 month agendas, but they only come in one print. Also they have a concealed spine, which I don’t like. Do you buy the jumbo agenda every year? If so, what do you do with the extra five months? Hope you can answer my question! Thank you for your amazing post!

    1. Hi Katie,

The 17 month planners are confusing to a lot of people. From my perspective, these planners are mainly meant to appeal to the student/parent/teacher set who are looking for something with an August start to follow the school year. But, people also like to have a planner that goes beyond the school year for far-out planning or to appeal to those of us who aren’t planning around the school year. Unfortunately when you are basically trying to appeal to two different needs, you’re going to have some parts of the planner that don’t make sense for you. For me, I wish these planners would just go from August-July but I think they might lose some appeal to the non-school crowd who want something that goes a full calendar year.

I personally like the 17 month planners better for the same reasons you do-spiral binding and greater print selection-so I buy a new one every year. I typically use the extra monthly calendar views on my refrigerator as a quick-view and the extra weekly pages for notes or to-do lists that i can stash in my purse without taking the whole planner with me. So while I do agree with you that the overlapping months are unnecessary, I do always find a use for them so I’m not just wasting the paper. If Lilly would offer spiral bound 12-month planners with good prints I would definitely go with that planner but until then I’ll continue using their 17 month.
