Well Lilly lovers it’s everyone’s favorite time of year: Agenda Time! Each year in June, the Lilly obsessed wait (im)patiently for the release of the coveted agenda. Which patterns will they feature? What new details can we expect? Will I be able to stand the wait until August to use it? Have no fear, I’m here to give an in depth review of the 2016-2017 Lilly Pulitzer Agenda.

First of all, the Lilly Pulitzer Agenda is available RIGHT NOW for purchase. So read this review and let me know which pattern and size YOU are picking and why it works for your lifestyle!

The 2016-2017 Lilly Pulitzer agenda is very similar to last years agenda with some nice upgrades and, of course, fresh new prints.

New features for 2016-2017 include a gold elastic band cover and gold spiral binding AND the prints feature some fantastic gold foil details. The past few years the agendas have featured colored bands and white bindings and I have to tell you that I just adore the gold. It really ups the style factor on these agendas and I hope they continue to use the gold accents. So much gold foil y’all. Can you handle it?

This year Lilly discontinued the covered spine large agendas for the 17-month agenda but added a new monthly planner. I haven’t seen these in person but from what I can tell they are simply agendas that only have a monthly view. So for those of you that feel like the monthly and weekly agendas are just too much to keep up with or who want something not as bulky, the monthly planner sounds like the perfect fit for you. Also, a sweet commenter told me that she spoke with Lilly customer service regarding the covered spine agendas and it seems like these may be released in October. Last year I heard a rumor that Lilly was going to introduce regular 12-month agendas and I’m wondering if that’s what these covered spine versions may be. I’ll keep you posted.

Here’s a quick glance at the Lilly Pulitzer agenda size differences and also what patterns each is available in. Click the “X” to be taken to an Amazon or Lilly Pulitzer link.

Size Measurements Ocean Jewels Exotic Garden Southern Charm Tusk In Sun Island Time Lovers Coral Going Coastal
Jumbo 8 3/4″ x 11 1/4″ X X X
Large 6 3/4″ x 8 7/8″ X X X X X X
Medium 5″ x 8 1/4″ X X X X
Small 4 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ X X
Monthly Planner 6 3/4″ x 8 7/8″ X X

This year, I decided to go for the large agenda size. I bought the jumbo last year and while it truly is a wonderful thing for students, teachers, or those that have much busier lives than I do, it was just too big for me and I felt like all of that wonderful writing space was really lost on me. I do still like the larger sizes though because it’s very easy to write in and I don’t feel cramped like I did when I bought the small size. The large is perfect for me to use as a desk planner but it can travel easily as long as you are carrying a tote or backpack.

Here is a comparison from my three most recent agendas-jumbo, large, and small.

My very favorite part of this year’s planner is the Exotic Garden pattern that I chose. This pattern is just to die for and is even prettier in person. There are gold foil accents all over it and again, that gold just really elevates the style of the agenda from something cute to something truly worth showing off. This pattern is also one of the reasons I ended up choosing the large size over the jumbo. I just couldn’t say no!

Now for a preview of the inside of the agenda. All of the agendas have the same layout and prints inside.

The inside cover features a great palm print and pocket page on the right.

The next layout includes another pocket page and a brief history of Lilly and her company.

Next is a print page and the first of two sticker pages. Last year Lilly featured their 5×5 art in their stickers and while totally adorable, they weren’t particularly useful beyond being decorative. This year Lilly went back to more typical agenda stickers which I find to be pretty and functional. Have no fear if you love that 5×5 art though y’all. I have a surprise coming up for you in in the next couple of pages.

This page probably looks familiar to those who bought last year’s agenda. The Palm Beach map was probably my favorite spread of last year’s agenda and its made a comeback for 2016-2017.

Remember that surprise I mentioned? Sad the stickers no longer feature the 5×5 art? Well let me just tell you, this is bigger and better than those stickers! This year Lilly features some of their 5×5 art by devoting individual pages to some select prints. These are just screaming to be torn out and framed.

The dates to celebrate pages are nice if you like to keep birthdays and anniversaries all on one page in an easy to find format.

The travel pages are perfect if you have some trips on your itinerary but these can also be used to plan projects or track long term goals if you don’t travel much. Just use some washi tape or labels to cover up the text and fill in your own to customize this page. There are 12 travel pages so there is lots of room to play around with.

Last year I mentioned that the numbers and addresses pages might seem outdated but are great to record important numbers and info in case of technology breakdown. There are 4 numbers and addresses pages.

A section for notes is always helpful and Lilly has given us 10 pages for whatever you need to record. I love to keep track of books I’ve read, movies I’ve watched, or other metadata I might want to look back on.

Lilly Pulitzer 2016-2017 Agenda Review

There is something I want to mention before I get to the monthly/weekly spreads and that is concerning last year’s agendas which had a monthly-only section. Or, at least mine did. This was separate from the regular monthly/weekly spreads and was just a two page calendar spread for each month in a section all on its own. This is not included in this year’s agenda. I was really never sure last year if the extra monthly section was a printing error or not because I heard from some ladies who did NOT have that section in their agenda but my agenda did. I personally did not find it useful and it only bulked up my agenda so I’m glad that it’s not included this year. I wasn’t sure if I was going to include a note about this but a lovely reader mentioned it so I figure I would sneak a quick note in about it.

Now for the good stuff. Each Lilly Pulitzer agenda monthly/weekly spread includes a two-page cover layout featuring a wonderful print, a monthly calendar view, and a weekly calendar view. Just like last year, I’m going to use August as a full example of the monthly and weekly spread. For the rest of the months I’ll just be showing you the cover preview.

The 2016-2017 Lilly Pulitzer agenda is available on Amazon with free Prime shipping which I find is the quickest way to get your hands on a planner. The Lilly Pulitzer website has all agendas available and offers free shipping. Eventually the agendas will disappear or sell out from the Lilly site and I find that Amazon is the place to go once that happens.

    1. I know not everyone is a Lilly fan but their patterns do look pretty darn great on a planner! For me, I just love the bright colors because they keep me motivated to use the planner which in turn keeps me motivated to stay organized. You’ll have to let me know what planner you end up getting even if it’s not the Lilly!

  1. Thanks for the lovely review! I ordered mine through a personal shopper since I live in Malaysia. I’m dying right now the fact that I will only get it middle of July!

Just a quick question, after the 2017-2018 calendar spread, do they still have the monthly overview like the previous agenda?

    Thanks in advance!

    XO,
    Abyan

    1. I can’t wait for you to get it! I’m glad it will be there in time for you to use it even if you do have to wait until July!

OK so if I’m thinking of the same thing, then no, there is no monthly spread in this agenda. Last year there was a section of monthly looks which was separate from the monthly/weekly groupings and that is not in the agenda this year. I’ll update my review to include that. I hesitated to do so because I spoke with a few others who had the agenda and they did not have that monthly spread in their agenda last year. I was never able to figure out if it was a printing error and, if so, which version was correct.

So there is a monthly calendar in with the weekly spreads but there is not an additional, separate grouping of monthly looks only. I hope that is clear and is what you are asking about!

  2. This year it was so easy to pick a pattern–I saw Ocean Jewels and knew I had to have it! It’s so gorgeous in person. I like the addition of the gold coils and cover elastic, although I have some concerns about the elastic being, well, not elastic enough. It feels like it might stretch out too much with constant use.

I need two planners this year, one for personal and another for work. I picked up a daily Day Designer from Target and it looks nice with the Lilly one. Totally not necessary but it makes me happy.

    1. Love hearing which one you chose! The Ocean Jewels is such a lovely pattern. You’ll have to let me know if you have any problems with the elastic. Mine seems OK but I’ll definitely keep an eye on it.

  3. About 3 weeks ago, I spoke on the phone with a Lilly Pulitzer representative about the covered spine agendas. She told me they will come out in October :).

    1. Good to know, Doris! Thanks so much for commenting! Last year Lilly mentioned that they would be coming out with regular January-December planners and I wonder if that will be the case for these covered spine agendas.

  4. I love the packing list on there! And I love all the gold! Makes me want to buy one. But then I’d have to clean up my desk to make the space for it. *SIGH*

  5. Hey i’m from England and I happen to be going to New York in late August/start of September. Do the Lilly agenda’s sell out or will there still be a wide range at that time in the NYC store? If they sell out i’ll have to ship to myself but obviously will have to pay all sorts of customs fees so I don’t really want to do that if possible aha! Wish Lilly shipped to UK directly!

    1. Hi Francesca! I have no idea if the agendas will still be available or not in the NY store. From my experience, the stores sell out much more quickly than the online Lilly site. In your case, ordering from an alternative site like Amazon who ships internationally might be your best bet. I hope you are able to get your Lilly agenda! I’m sure dealing with customs fees is a big pain!

    1. I agree Debbie! When I love the look of my planner it really makes me want to use it and stay organized. It’s the little things 🙂

  6. This is adorable! Thanks for sharing your review! I enjoy being able to see things before I order them, especially if the website has very limited pictures! I just ordered mine and can’t wait for it to get here!!

    – Jaclyn

    1. So glad you liked the review Jaclyn! Yes, I agree regarding the pictures. With people buying more things online now it’s so important to have a lot of pictures and I’ve always felt like the Lilly site didn’t show enough of the agenda for people to really get a good idea of what it truly looks like. I love that the pictures are helpful and I hope you love your agenda! What size and pattern did you get?

    1. OK first of all, I am dying over the name of your blog and the content within. I just LOVE it.

Second of all, I totally get what you mean about the price point. The EC agendas are incredibly nice but they are expensive and personally I like the aesthetic of the Lilly one better. Both are very usable to me and I ended up choosing this one for the style when I was getting back into paper agendas a few years back. And even though these agendas are big, depending on what size you get, I feel like the EC is sometimes too bulky for me. Still a super option but the Lilly is a nice one to consider if you are on the fence.

  7. Meg, I love how you wrote your post! I feel as if you were in my head showing me exactly what I want to see in a planner. I love planners and am always looking at the similarities and differences. It is a pet peeve of mine when companies selling planners don’t show enough pictures. Also your chart comparing planner sizes is wonderful!! I love the look of her planners but the layout doesn’t work for me. But I will refer others to your post who are interested in these planners. Thanks!!

    1. Christina what a sweet comment! I’m so glad you found this post useful even if the layout doesn’t work for you. I like sharing posts like these because of the information. I can’t tell you how many similar posts from other bloggers have helped me make a decision one way or the other and it’s something I truly feel makes the blogger world so special. Thanks so much for stopping by to say hello!

  8. Thanks for the review! I’m going with the large size over the jumbo because of your recommendation. It helped a lot! I think this will be perfect for college, and they are so cute! I wish they had the monthly only section still like last year though. I liked that section for easy look at the whole year while still being able to mark important dates. It was good for school year break planning. It must be one of the things they got rid of to fit in the 5×5 art. Though the art is cute, I think it takes away from the practicality of the planner and hope they cut it down next year/make it a periodic break in the book instead of a section so that the practical parts like the one they took out can be put back in.

    1. I know what you mean, Nicole! While the extras are always cute, they do add bulk to an already big agenda without adding any extra productivity and organization. So glad this review helped you with the size decision and I hope you love your planner! I think the large will work so well for you for college.

  9. I’m having a hard time deciding which size to choose! I’m a student so I would only keep it in my backpack, and I do like when they’re similar to a notebook size. Right now I am going back and forth from the large to the jumbo. Any suggestions?

    1. As a student, you’ll definitely be able to utilize the jumbo and since you will be keeping it in your backpack the size shouldn’t be a problem. I would go jumbo! It’s definitely my favorite size, I just don’t have quite enough of a life to fill it with 🙂

  10. i just got my agenda in Ocean Jewels and its just my favorite thing, I like these prints so much better than last years! Anyways the most annoying part about the agendas is that they are 18 months instead of 12! I’m a student so I only use it September – June and like 7 months just go wasted. I never understood why they do that?

    1. Hi Ava,

So glad you love your Ocean Jewels planner!

I think Lilly is trying to appeal to two different groups with these planners. The first would be students/teachers/parents who are bound more by the school calendar but the second are “regular” people who follow the typical calendar year. Unfortunately when you are trying to appeal to two sets of people there will be some overlapping. Even within the student set you have different groups of people to appeal to. The high school set might only use their planners for school from september-june but college students who might take classes during the summer would use it year round. And within those sets you have students who want to plan other activities or work that fall outside typical school days.

When picking a planner it’s important to decide if the layout actually works for you. If the waste really bothers someone they might be better off with a different planner that only encompasses the school year. When I used this in school I used it year round even when I wasn’t taking classes and now that I’m not in school I appreciate the full spectrum because I’m not bound by the school year. I do buy a new planner every year so I find alternative uses for the overlapping months so the paper doesn’t go to waste. I do agree that their system isn’t perfect but I buy it mainly because I love the design.
